It Takes a Village

There’s a common saying that it, “takes a village to raise a child.” The same is true for making the Taste of Valparaiso a success. Every Kappa member, 100 at last count, contributes. Our Chairs put in dozens, if not hundreds of hours coordinating the many different committees; decor, set-up, flowers, publicity, restaurants, tickets, raffle, silent auction, and more. Each Kappa sells admission tickets and/or raffle tickets. This year, we sold out our $1000 raffle, which was a first. Our Silent Auction solicited donations of goods and services from over 100 sources. Many Kappa members donated or found additional donations. And then there were our wonderful sponsors and restaurants and some special partners who contributed to printing costs, sold tickets at public locations, entertained, or brought flowers to decorate the huge hall that is the Expo Center. All these generous individuals and businesses contributed to create an experience treasured by many in the community. The ultimate goal of the Taste is to raise as much money as possible that we can redistribute in the form of scholarships, community grants, charitable contributions, and projects promoting the arts and culture. If the crowd is any indication, this year was one of our more successful events to date. While final numbers are still coming in, we wanted to reach out and thank everyone who attended or participated in any way. We can’t do this without your support. Thank you.
